Roanoke City high school principal named “Education Hero”

Educators make a difference every day in the lives of our children.

WSLS and the Red Cross honor our “Education Hero,” Connie Ratcliffe, Principal of Patrick Henry High School.

Ratcliffe started out as a health and P.E. teacher and eventually worked to become an administrator.

After 35 years of working in education she says she's most proud of her work at Patrick Henry High leading the school to academic success.

“I started out in pre-law and I decided that there were a couple teachers that had made a real difference in my life, I said I really can't see myself making a difference as a lawyer,” said Ratcliffe.

Her boss, Dr. Rita Bishop, is giving credit where its due saying, “I can't think of a better person to receive this award. For nearly 30 years, Connie has dedicated her life to public education.  she is the best and in my mind irreplaceable.”
